The racing game

I want to clarify that I am not racist even though a previous post sounded very much like I was. I never went into detail on my experience with getting my patio poured and the bad taste it left in mouth. Basically we paid a gentleman (who happened to be black) cash to pour our patio. We went for a month with no phone call, no concrete and no cash back before he showed up to do the job and then it didn't happen in the timeline promised. Yes, we did get our patio and are pleased with it but it didn't happen without many nights worrying if we had been taken and were out $1,000 +.

Skip ahead to PT (who also happens to be black) and I paid him money up front in a trusting manner and had issues with him not showing up for his job and not calling and then making excuses. Through talking to the manager I found that he had been having other issues and was not showing up to that job either.

The only two people I have ever had do this to me both happened to be black, and from Charleston and men (and that is probably where the true problem lies, never pay a man until the job is done). Madame D made a great point in my comments about how if blondes keep stealing your boyfriends, you're going to be less trusting of blondes

Will I continue to work with black people? Of Course. Will I be less trusting? Probably not, just a little more protective of my interests. Was I posting a rant that came across wrong? Apparently.

Racism is disgusting and is a true sign of ignorance, but when I have experiences like these I can understand how some people honestly believe that it is a characteristic of one race. I don't agree with it, but how do you convince some one who has only had bad experiences to give it one more try and not to judge an entire race based on a few bad experiences? I like to try to see both sides of the coin and I'd really love to know why I have a sign on my head that says "Take my money".

Check back later for a story about how my dog almost killed himself.

Yeah, cash up front is always tricky.
It's hard for anyone to overcome a stereotype in their heads. Whether it is true or not (they're not stereotypes for no reason), they're still ways we classify people in order to deal with the general public.
Now, I say be wary of the men with missing teeth and dirty overalls with about five years worth of beard growth, but you never know when they'll be just the person you need.
Darn it, it's so hard to dislike people!
