What's in a name?

Susie recently wrote a post about funny names and while I have run across a few (Cockburn being one of unfortunate ones) that are funny in and of themselves, it seems that I am much more adept at taking something normal and making strange. Not a big surprise.

Until I was about 13 or so I just thought I had teachers with the strangest names when I was younger. I even asked my mom how I got all the weird named teachers and that’s when she told me that they were in fact normal names I just made them unusual.

The first one was a preschool teacher and routinely sent into the hall with my cot for talking too much. Her name was Mrs. Booger and I always thought that was so sad and funny and I managed not to giggle about it because I would hate to have that name. Now that I think of it maybe the cot in the hall was punishment for calling her Mrs. Booger.

Her name was Mrs. Booker.

Then I was in a private school for kindergarten and I had this awesome teacher named Ms. Necklace. It was such a pretty name and she always wore a strand of pearls or some other pretty necklace and I would think of how appropriate it was that she dressed to match her name and wondered if she bought the necklaces because that was her name.

Her name was Ms. Nichols.

I think beyond that I usually got it right but even now I have issues with names and often ask somebody to spell it because names can be unique and I really don’t want to refer to a client and Mr. and Mrs. Snotface.
